The Faith in Action Committee has established ongoing relationships and projects with local charitable organizations and has a regular presence at the annual holiday fair.

  • Renewal House: First Parish has a 20+ year relationship with Renewal House, a domestic violence shelter for individuals and families fleeing violence or abuse that is part of the UU Urban Ministry in Boston. First Parish’s Faith in Action committee coordinates an annual summer picnic in August and an annual holiday party in December.
  • Silver Bells Fair: A portion of the annual Silver Bells Holiday Fair is reserved for Faith in Action and other local non-profits to raise money for their causes.
  • Local Charities: Faith in Action leads a democratic nomination and voting process whereby the parish determines which local causes to support through fundraising and plate donations. Three charities are selected for a two-year commitment. The current charities that First Parish has elected to support are Blackfeather Farm, Plymouth Area Taskforce for the Homeless, and Haiti 180.
  • “Hate Has No Home Here” signs: we’ve made these signs with a simple yet powerful message available to our parishioners so people can stand on the side of love in the community at large.
